    About "Gwynn Marssen"

    1. Gwynn Marssen

I m born and bred in the Netherlands, where talking about the weather is the national sport although we pretend it s soccer and a favorite saying is you d better act normal cause that s crazy enough I like talking about the weather, but I m not a big fan of normality Despite that, I lead a mostly quiet and disturbingly normal life and keep the craziness contained in my head.As a child I read too much, finding the world of fiction far interesting than everyday life, and even now I try to spend as much time as possible in other people s heads, through books and writing, and through my alter ego life as a psychologist On any given day, you can find me curled up on my couch with a spicy book, one or both of her two cats, some tea, and ample amounts of Dutch chocolate.I ve been writing for about five years, after I started watching professional wrestling, and those hot, practically naked man invaded my head, became my muses and forced me to start writing For a few years I read, wrote, and obsessed about pro wrestling slash fanfiction, and in the end of 2012 I made the step to writing my own characters. In 2013 I published my first two stories Running Away From Sunshine which was published by Dreamspinner, and Is It Me You re Looking For published by ManLoveRomance Press This year I will once again be featured in Dreamspinner s Daily Dose Anthology with my story Breaking Down Our Walls which will be available in june 2014 Also coming this summer is the free novella Into The Wastelands, my first foray into fantasy.

    1. Jake, and ER doctor is crushing on his (very frequent) patient Gabriel.Gabriel is a college hockey player, adrenalin junkie, happy go lucky and very accident and injury prone.Jake is still in mourning and I liked that Gabriel got him looking at his life and where he was and how he was living differently. Starting him on the path to healing, I'm just not sure about the relationship, it seemed to me where Jake made great improvements and moved forward, Gabriel isn't.I understand Gabriel's decision [...]

    2. June 14 release of 2013 Daily Dose: Making a Play.I'm surprised at the low ratings on this one. It is my favorite of the 2013 Daily Dose: Making a Play series so far. I loved the theme of the lonely man holed up in the dreary Canadian landscape, after having been raised in the California sunshine, forever mourning his love who died in a freak surfing accident.Great friendship, healing/comfort and eventual romance. Recommended.

    3. This review can be found at The Armchair Reader. This is a quick story about Jake and Gabriel and the friendship they develop. Jake is an ER doctor who seems to constantly have to treat Gabriel, an injury prone college hockey player. The crush Jake has for Gabriel is something he can live with until Gabriel learns Jake isn’t a hockey fan and brings it upon himself to show Jake just what he’s missing. As friends, they have a lot in common but Jake soon realizes that his feelings for Gabriel ke [...]

    4. New beginnings can be hard, especially when the man who needs one, Jake, doesn't seem capable of truly leaving his past behind. Moving to a different country may outwardly seem like a new beginning, but since the internal emotional healing hasn't taken place, no number of miles between California and where Jake is no will help.Jake has left everything and everyone behind when he "ran from sunshine", code for leaving California and moving to Canada. Nobody knows why he did it, and he's neither th [...]

    5. This was a sweet, touching story about starting over. Jake used to live in California but had his heart broken when his boyfriend died. In an effort to ease the pain Jake moved to Canada and buried himself in his medical practice. Gabriel shoved his way into Jake's life with his good looks and zest for life and made Jake forgive himself. I enjoyed the back and forth battle between the two guys and the way Gabriel forced Jake to move on and leave Sean in the past. There was a lot packed into this [...]

    6. This story started out with great promise but started getting lost when the author added to many issues and characters into such a short story. Everything felt rushed and without any kind of resolution. The situation about the brother getting hurt and in the hospital, IMOP this should have been taken out because it added nothing to the original point of the story. As for the ending, it was really incomplete, like the author ran out of time. Overall an okay read for me, but nothing I would read a [...]

    7. Review written for MM Good Book Reviewsmmgoodbookreviews.wordpress/This story was a bit overflowing with events and things happening in there that the short length didn’t quite support for proper development, however I did like it. It was sweet and the hockey character, Gabriel, was charming. An adrenaline junky and a devil may care attitude has Gabriel almost too frequently in the ER, where his doctor, Jake, is having a difficult time maintaining a solely professional face. But Jake isn’t o [...]

    8. In Gwynn Marssen’s moving short story, “Running Away From Sunshine,” Jake, an emergency room doctor, has run away from the sunshine and surfing of California to the wintry cold and snowboarding of Calgary. Something happened six years ago in that sunny utopia, and Jake still hasn’t gotten over it.Gabriel, a 22-year-old college hockey player, shows up, not for the first time, in the ER. It might be difficult to imagine what Jake and Gabriel could have in common, but they do share one majo [...]

    9. Beans: There was unexpected in this novella. Unexpected pain. Unexpected lust. Unexpected pasts. Unexpected ending. I loved it. I am an angst junky, like the next girl and so this story satisfied that push and pull. Were they going to get together? Were they ever going to get past a hook-up? I liked these men. I even liked the way the author ended this story with a beautiful pause button. There is more to this love story and I liked we got to see into the first days.Nina: An enjoyable novella. I [...]

    10. Overall I enjoyed this story of Jake who had been living in a world of grief for six years. It was lovely to see Gabriel start to break down his barriers and make him see that he needed to get on with living. What I really wanted in this story story was a nice happy ending, not the outstanding issues with Gabriel where his ice hockey career determines his ability to come out. The last paragraph was also disappointing - I could accept the HFN scenario but hated that Jake was going to visit his fam [...]

    11. Started out really interesting but sort of tanked after a while. Way too much going on for the length of the story. If just one stumbling block to their relationship had been picked and written about more in depth I think it would have worked better. Instead we have issue one, someone walks out, then quick resolution and bam! here comes issue two, someone walks out and then another quick resolution. In a longer story it would have worked but here it just felt all crammed together and frustrated [...]

    12. "Nobody knows why ER resident Jake Nichols left California to move to cold and dark Calgary, Canada."That, up there, is a direct quote from the blurb, although the bold hi-light is my doing. Calgary may very well be cold in winter but it is definitely not "dark". On average, Calgary has 332 some-odd days of sunshine yearly; Los Angeles, California has, on average, 292 sunny days yearly - more than a month LESS than Calgary! Let's do a bit better with the research, shall we? :)

    13. Once again one of those short stories with a potential for a real novella or a longer novel. Of course it depends on the author capability in writing a longer story. Anyway I liked both MC. Gabriel was a sweet guy, but when he behaved like an idiot, just after Jake told him about his past I could kick his ass. To this point I enjoyed this story, but after that idiotic twist, everything in this story fell apart. Ending is definitely rushed and undeveloped, I was disappointed in it. It could be wa [...]

    14. 1.5 stars - Started out okay, but ended up a bit of a mess. It was jumbled, kind of confusing, and choppy, so much so that I kept going back a few paragraphs to make sure I hadn't skipped something accidentally. And I definitely didn't like the ending. Too much was left unresolved in my opinion. So yeah, this one just wasn't for me.

    15. Jake an doctor Gabriel an patient one to many times, his an hockey player and jake has fallen for him. But there a ghost of the past jake cant let go if he can let it go him and gabriel will be ok. Well i hope they are both in the road to happiness.

    16. "It was OK" fits it quite well. Nothing great or brilliant, and TBH the writing style isn't all that good (just my opinion) :)
